What is Canva Craft?
Canva Craft is Canva Research’s image generation foundation model, built for design work. It turns text prompts into visuals such as marketing graphics, presentation imagery, portraits and illustrations, with output resolution up to 2K.
Creators can access Craft through Canva Dream Lab. Developers can request the model through Canva’s preview image generation API, which creates asynchronous jobs and returns downloadable results.

What to know before you use it
- The image generation API is a preview and may introduce unannounced breaking changes. Public apps using preview APIs cannot pass review for availability to all Canva users.
- API generation consumes the user’s AI allowance. Requests can fail when that allowance is exhausted and require asset:write permission and image_generation capability.
- API download links expire after 24 hours, and only the app and user that created a job can retrieve it.
- Advanced editing and reference-image capabilities are described as future releases. Craft support through Canva MCP is marked as coming soon.
